Frequently Asked Questions of the Building Committee (5 - 2010)
Sanctuary 1) Are we moving the eternal light to the new Sanctuary? Yes 2) Why no balcony? Design and cost considerations, including the cost of an elevator strongly suggested having no balcony. 3) Will we have traditional pews? Still being determined. 4) Where will the choir be sitting? Still being determined. 5) We are moving the organ, correct? Yes 6) Will we have an adequate sound system including added hearing assistance? Yes 7) Why doesn't the
sanctuary floor slope down to the front? Current concept is for a flat floor
due to costs and versatility. 11) Are we going to take our present Alter? Currently plan to, but will depend on final design.
12) Will there be any Stained Glass windows? No.
Exterior & Outside the Building 1) Will we move the cornerstone? We plan to. 2) Will we move the bell from the courtyard? Yes 3) Is there a cross on
the outside of the church? Yes 6) Will the bell from the bell tower be moved to the new church? No 7) Where will the Fountain be? Still being determined. Considering a fountain in the front of the church and/or in the garden in the back.
8) Will the Landscaping be complete with the Church? Yes, though trees and bushs will be ‘young’.
9) Will there be Ball fields? There will be recreation areas, but there are no plans in the first phase to put in formal fields.
10) Will we take the items in our present courtyard including the original Bell? We are considering taking the bell, bench’s, alter, lecturn, and arbor bench.
Offices, Classrooms, Kitchen 1) Will the kitchen have new fixtures? Yes 2) How big is the Kitchen? 16x40….just a little bigger than our current kitchen.
3) What are we taking from the Kitchen? See Jerry for the list.
4) How many classrooms will we have? 5, (2 Nurseries and 3 youth classrooms) initially, but plans for 8 by Phase 3. So, all will be childrens classrooms at first. Are they big enough? Of course.
Budget & Project Timing
1) When will construction start? July, 2011.
2) How important is it for us to sell our current church before moving ahead? It’s important to have the funds from the sale of the church. It will influence timing and what we can afford.
3) What is the best case start date and what needs to happen to meet this date? Breaking ground in the middle of 2011 is probably best case. It would require a successful 2nd Capital Campaign and an increase in the general fund budget to pay the mortgage payment. Selling the church will help, too. Other 1) Will the new church have bells? Still being determined. 2) Will the church be handicapped accessible including the restrooms? Yes, has to be.
3) How much of the existing furnishings will be used in the new church? In
most cases, newer items in good condition will go to the new building. 5) Will the new church meet the new energy "green" guidelines? The new building is designed for sustainability.
6) Are we going to have a fellowship hall? Yes, absolutely. Will it be big enough? Of course.
8) Will the Restrooms be larger than those in our present Church? Yes
9) I did not see a Music/Choir room. There will be a Music/Choir room, but it may be shared with other functions, at least in Phase 1.
10) When will we build the recreation building? This is not in our current plan.
11) Is there going to be enough Storage? We believe so.
