October 2015 Newsletter

Dear Church Family,

May God's peace be with you. As a community of Christian believers we strive to follow God's plan and purpose in our lives. Jesus said, "if you love me then obey my commands." In other words, our love of Jesus is demonstrated in the way we live our lives in every moment of every day.

The Christian life is a journey. As we travel the path that God has prepared for us there will be different seasons that will come and go. Some of these seasons will be great, some difficult, seasons of great growth in our relationship with God and seasons of struggle. Yet, we live with the hope and conviction that God will see us through.

As we travel this journey we are not alone. God and our church family travel with us. One part of the journey together is learning and growing in our understanding of God's love for us and our love for God. When Jesus stated that we demonstrate our love for Him in obeying His commands He was teaching that we have been given all that we need for this journey and we need to follow  His direction.

Following God's leading requires of us intentional effort and many times hard work. Let's ponder for a moment our personal walk with God. Here are a couple of questions for us to answer: Am I living out the commands of Jesus? Am I on the path that God has prepared for me? If either or both of our answers are no or I don't know then our next steps are prepared for us. If we are not following what Jesus taught in an area of our lives it is time to respond to Christ's love by loving Jesus to the extent that we begin to do what Jesus said to do.

Most of us have had a person in our lives that we loved so much that the last thing we ever wanted to do was to disappoint that person. It is this type of relationship that God desires for us. That we love God in Jesus so much that we never want to disappoint God or Jesus. Hear these words of God's grace, God loves you and will be with you no matter how disappointing some of our choices have been. God is waiting now for us to lay our unfaithfulness, those disappointing actions, at the foot of the cross.

God is so loving that He is patiently waiting for us to live a faithful journey as a follower of Jesus. A journey that is marked by living a Christ like life. A life of love and faithfulness. Never forget that you are a child of God, created for a purpose, created as a much needed part of the Kingdom of God.

How are you going to show your love for God today, tomorrow and forever?

October Prayer And Fasting

Friday, October 2, as called for by our Bishop, is our next Prayer and Fasting Day. Our focus in October will be on The Mission of the Church. Conference-wide we are embracing a shared opportunity to join our hearts and bend our knees in some regular times of fasting and prayer on the first Friday of each month.

You will find a bulletin in the Prayer Corner at the front of the sanctuary with suggested prayers and centering Bible scriptures to help you focus your thoughts on October 2.

2016 Stewardship Campaign: The planning and organizing for 2016 is underway. Please keep WUMC, Pastor Mike and the entire church family in your thoughts and prayers, including how you may contribute to God's work through your finances, prayers, service, participation and witness. Pastor Mike's message on Sunday, October 4th will kick off our 2016 campaign. Watch for additional information in November's Ambassador.

"What if we offered to God our small gifts, talents and work, prayed about them and asked God to use them? If we truly believe God's power is at work in us and through us, our little could do much. In fact, if we just step back and look, we may see what God has already been doing. Looking for what God has done in our past can strengthen our resolve to make ourselves available in our future."                                                   The Upper Room, Oct 18, 2012

Please contact the Church Office or Tom Wiggins (financialsec@watervilleumc.org) if you have any questions about anything related to finance, stewardship or the Capital Campaign.
