November 2016 Newsletter

Dear Church Family,

First, thank you all for your prayers, your cards of encouragement and appreciation and the recognition following worship this past week of appreciation and birthday celebration. A special thanks to the Staff Parish Relations Committee for putting everything together

You are a generous congregation for which God will continue to bless.

If you have not been by our Waterville Monclova road property you may want to drive by. You will discover the new cement apron and sidewalk. Many people who live near the home of our new church building are already enjoying the sidewalk.

A brief update on the church property. A site development team is working on all the permits and bids to move the dirt that was so graciously donated by Browning Masonic Home of Waterville. Pray for wisdom for this team as they work through a long list of details.

There is a lot of work that must be done to actually move forward with a new building and every person in our congregation will have the opportunity to offer your thoughts. Most of all we must be in prayer as we seek God's wisdom and provision!

In our present stewardship campaign, we are learning to live generously with our time, talents and treasure. Where is God calling you to serve with your time and with your natural gifts and with the gifts of the Holy Spirit? How is God directing the use of your treasure? James 1:5 states, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him." Ask for God's wisdom and you will receive it generously.

Also, it is important not just to seek God's wisdom but to also seek the leading and empowering of the Holy Spirit. Seek the Holy Spirt and you will be gifted and empowered for ministry.

Two of our leading ministries are Operation Christmas Child (OCC) and Theatre for the World.

Time is passing by very quickly to pick up and fill OCC shoe boxes. OCC is a great opportunity to ask family, friends and neighbors to also fill a box to bless children throughout the world. There are innumerous stories of how a shoe box full of many items literally changed a person's life. You can be a part of this life changing ministry.

Theatre for the World will be presenting their newest show December 3-5 which is the second weekend of advent. What an opportunity for us to invite co-workers, neighbors and friends to a great time away from the business that builds up from Thanksgiving through Christmas. Offer this gift of fun and humor.

God is so good to each of us. Let us say thanks as we impact the lives of others with the gospel of grace.

Have a great thanksgiving and be blessed,

Pastor Mike

Finance & Stewardship

Dear Friends,

First of all, on behalf of the Church Council and Pastor Mike, thank you for your ongoing support of the mission and ministry of WUMC. It takes all of us, not just a few, working together, sharing our money, our time, our talents, our participation and our witness to do God's work of spreading the good news and making disciples for Jesus Christ.

Sunday, October 23rd was the kick off for our 2017 Stewardship Campaign. It is a time of prayer for all of us, thanking God for His many blessings and asking for His guidance and direction to do His will as individuals, as families and as a congregation.

What portion of the resources that He has given us does He want us to return to Him for the work of His Church? Whether its financial giving, volunteering for a committee or project, participating in worship or an activity, etc. To help us find the answers to these questions and others, we will once again follow the Donovan family as they experience these same issues. If you recall, we met them in our Loving Generously series we used during Lent this past spring.   This next series is entitled Living Generously.

It will be the 2017 Stewardship Campaign or maybe we should rename it our Living Generously Campaign.   In any event, during this 5-week series, we along with the Donovan's, will be introduced to "giving" from a spiritual emphasis. As noted in the Study Guide, "Experiencing the life that is truly life". "This series is designed to open our eyes to the Biblical model of generous giving and chart a course for our own journey of generosity."

Now, besides the five messages by Pastor Mike, we will also be having weekly small group sessions to further discuss the weekly topic. We'll review the video along with the questions and suggestions in the study guide that you will receive. There are signup sheets on the wall in the hallway for a variety days & times. We still have openings, so please consider joining one of these small groups. If you not able to be at any session, you can attend another or make other arrangements.

On November 20th, we will be completing our commitment cards during worship service. For those not able to be with us, we will send theirs via U.S. Mail. We will share the results Dec 4th.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow..........

Please contact the Tom Wiggins financialsec@watervilleumc.org if you have any questions about anything related to finance or stewardship.

November Mission Focus

Operation Christmas Child will be our mission project for November.  There are three box sizes this year.  Shoeboxes are located at both doors to the sanctuary.  Near the boxes are bars of soap that we received from an organization called "Clean the World".  They collect and recycle soap from the hotel industry.  You are invited to help yourself to some of these bars of soap to include in your shoeboxes.  Pleaseplace these bars of soap in a baggie and include a washcloth in the bag whern placing them in your shoebox. Also, we have cloth bags made by a friend of this ministry that can be added to your box so that the recipient will have an item to carry belongings.

WUMC day of dedication will be Sunday, November 20.  Mission envelopes are located in the pew racks for your financial gifts.

John's Veggie Stand

Thanks to all who supported my Veggie Stand this year.  Because of your loyal support we have taken in more than $11,000 this year.  As you may know, all money taken in is given to the New Church Building Fund (Capital Fund) of our Church.  This year's amount takes my 8 year total to $103,000 total.  This was never my goal when the first pledge campaign was started, but the Lord has blessed this project abundantly.

I am blessed with the many new friends I have met at the Stand, and have been privileged to share in their story, giving free food to some and to Food Banks, and to be able to pray with those who share a concern.

The Lord willing, I will continue the project next year as well.

It excites me to see the beginnings with the new sidewalk,  the concrete driveway entrance, and the promise of receiving the new fill-dirt from Browning.

God Bless us All!!

Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Collection Station

Once again, Waterville UMC has the privilege this year to be a drop-off station for OCC shoeboxes in this area. All collection centers have been asked to have additional hours this year, so we need your help! A sign-up sheet has been placed on the bulletin board in the main hallway with the days and times our Community Room will be open. Please consider giving a couple hours of your time to help with our November Mission Project.

No Ordinary Christmas Miricale

TFTW is in full swing on our Christmas musical.  We have a very busy month ahead, but we are excited about our latest mission project.  We aren't just putting on a show, we are praying God uses our efforts to do wonderful things across the globe.

Our project will benefit two international charities allowing us, with God's help, to provide clean water through The Water Project to a village in Africa and many farm animals to families around the world through Samaritan's Purse.  Please join us in praying for great success in both of these life-sustaining efforts.

We are so very grateful for the support from WUMC.  It is a blessing to have so many members of the congregation on board with our project.  There are many ways to help.  The volunteer sign up sheet is posted on the bulletin board.  Please consider joining us behind the scenes, especially sharing the dates, hanging a poster and inviting friends, co-workers or strangers.  We're not picky!

When is this show and what is it about?  We will be performing, No Ordinary Christmas Miracle on December, 2&3 at 7:30 P.M. and December 4 at 1:30 P.M.   This is an original, musical-comedy containing many recognizable Christmas carols and some original songs.  It is a contemporary, family-friendly production that will hopefully allow the audience, young and old, to laugh often and even shed a tear as we celebrate the many joys of Christmas and emphasize God's undying love for us with the gift of His Son.

This is our largest cast by far.  We are welcoming many new faces, some of which are past audience members.  That means we'll need new folks to fill those seats, so invite a friend.  Please thank Tom and Karen Wiggins for extending themselves to keep this crazy train on track.  It is no small undertaking and it would not be possible without their dedication.  We can't wait to perform for you, but most importantly we are looking forward to the opportunity to live our faith first-hand and witness what God can do with what we offer.  Please continue to pray for our project and for all those involved.  Hope to see you at the show!

Salvation Army Red Kettle

WUMC's Salvation Arrmy Red Kettle Day will be Saturday, December 17th.  at Kroger in Waterville. Watch for sign up sheet on the bulletin board coming soon for times.

Sower Project 2017 - SOWER is a West Ohio Conference Volunteers In Mission (VIM) project that operates in conjunction with Henderson Settlement in Frakes, KY. The counties served by Henderson Settlement are among the most impoverished in the nation, with more than a third of all the families living below the poverty line, double the average for the state of Kentucky. Several years ago, the Henderson Settlement staff realized that new housing was needed in the area; this is when SOWER was begun. Each summer, volunteers from all over Ohio, gather in Frakes, KY to build a house for a deserving family. The build schedule has been released for 2017 and the dates run from May 7th through August 26. Room and board for the week is $250. For more information, contact Ralph Brandon at sowervimproject@gmail.com or pick up one of the brochures on the shelf outside the church office.
