Dear Church Family,
One of the scripture passages that most everyone is taught as a child is John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." As we look towards Holy week we are reminded of the cost Jesus paid to live out his love of God and God's love for each of us. God's desire is that everyone will experience the free gift to us of love and grace. The gift is free as a result of the price paid by Jesus.
John 3:17 is of equal importance, "For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." This verse shows us God's heart by providing the way for the world to be saved. That way was Jesus suffering, then death on the cross and finally the resurrection which brought new life to all who would believe.
II Corinthians 5:16-18 declares for us, "So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:"
It is in Christ that we are reconciled to God as the old life of sin that brings with it guilt, shame, broken relationships and so many other worldly attitudes, is gone. In other words, in Christ sin no longer has power over us unless we allow it. We are made new; we get to start over no matter what.
Easter is the day that we set aside to celebrate this great gift from God. As we prayerfully prepare for our Holy Week experiences let us pray for those in our lives who have not been reconciled to God through new life in Christ. For we have been given the ministry of reconciliation. The greatest gift we can ever give to another is God's love and grace in Christ. Who do we know that desperately needs a new start?
May the love of God overflow from your life in Christ, may the light of Christ in you overcome the darkness in another and may the Holy Spirit lead you to one in great spiritual need. Easter is all about new life.
March 4 Prayer and Fasting: The Cross
On Friday, March 4, pray that we will follow Jesus to the cross and embrace a lifestyle of radical forgiveness. Suggestions to focus our praying for the month of March at http://www.westohioumc.org
A New Opportunity for Prayer
A new ministry open to everyone is forming in our church! We are starting a Prayer Time on Sunday mornings from 9-10:00, just before the Worship Service, and would like to invite everyone who is interested, no matter your age, to join us on Sunday, March 6 for our initial kick-off.
We are going to gather in the Sanctuary and, making use of a Prayer Kit compiled by Alaire Rothhaas plus some other resources, pray scripture as a group for that hour. There will be many things to pray for: the Worship Service and all its participants; WUMC and all its various components; our community and all its divisions; the AW School community, students, teachers, etc.; our county, state, and country and the multitude of issues facing us in this regard. Besides, whatever other things God places on your heart that morning, whether they be personal and private or larger and general. Though we are together as a group, we will each be praying individually however God leads.
This is a new adventure for us and we are following the instruction from Luke in Acts 4:24 - "Then all the believers were united as they lifted their voices in prayer." We profess ourselves to be a praying church, so this is just another element to increase that commitment to touch others, reach across barriers, and seek God's mission for this congregation.
If you have any questions, please call Karen Wiggins (419-350-1211). Or perhaps you would simply like to come and observe the group for a time or two. Remember, this is new to all of us, but we are aiming for it to be a blessing and the start of a renewal both within and without the walls of WUMC.
The Women's Card Ministry
The Women's Card Ministry is being revived. We have added a check box onto the prayer cards, located in the pew racks, for you to request a card be sent to a person needing encouragement. Be sure to add the address on the prayer card to where it should be sent. Hopefully this small act of kindness will help the person receiving the card in their time of need. Feel free to email Charlene Hansen at Charlene.email@example.com for additional information or to have someone given a card from the Women's Card Ministry.
Photo Directory Status
As you are aware, last year we had problems with the software used for managing individual giving records. This same software was also used to manage membership information, including the ability to create a photo directory. Because of these problems and until we could get them resolved, we stopped using the software.
Unfortunately that meant we had to stop the photo directory project that Cathy Landis and David Stafford had been working on (many hours by both). Thank you! Also, unfortunately, we did not do a very good job of communicating this to all of you. So, that's the truth and we wish we would have handled things differently.
Now for the good news. After much time and effort by Ted Myers (Thank you!), our computer equipment has been upgraded and new software has been installed which has resolved all issues and the financial and membership programs are working properly.
We are now ready to proceed with the creation of a photo directory that will be available to everyone. Tom Wiggins will be leading a team of two or three members to re-start this effort. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Tom. An action plan will be developed to complete the project in a timely and organized manner. We will provide progress updates as we go along. For now, please keep this in your thoughts and prayers.

WUMC You've Got Mail
Dear Friends in Mission:
Thank you for your gift received on February 16 to Imagine No Malaria campaign through The Advance, the designated mission giving channel of The United Methodist Church. We are pleased to share that 100 percent of your contribution will go towards eliminating one of the world's most deadly diseases. Giving through The Advance enables United Methodists to support one another in mission and ministry around the world. Thank you for partnering with us in God's mission.
Through gifts like yours, Imagine No Malaria has already distributed 1.2 million insecticide-treated bed nets throughout Africa. We have also trained more than 5,400 community health workers to personally deliver mosquito nets and measure usage rates. Today, because of the dedicated and generous support of people like you, malaria's impact has been cut in half!
Your gift supports the work of the United Methodist church and our many partners including The Global Fund to Fight AIDS; Tuberculosis and Malaria; The United Nations Foundation; the International Federation of the Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies, Nets for Life, and United Methodist central conferences across Africa.
May God grant you a sense of hope and joy as you continue your support for mission and as we advance towards a day with no malaria.
Grace and Peace,
General Board of Global Ministries
