January 2017 Newsletter

Dear Church Family,

As we come to the end of 2016 we share many different feelings. Some of us will be very glad to leave 2016 behind and look towards a new start in 2017. Others of us will look back at 2016 and give thanks for some great experiences and hope 2017 will be just as great. How about you personally? What can you give thanks for from 2016 and what do you hope for in 2017?

Let each of us ponder for a moment on our lives and what we would like to experience in 2017. There are the normal things that come to mind. Getting into better physical condition, losing weight, eating healthier, spending more time with family, the list goes on. What about our spiritual lives?

Two questions that I hope each of us will consider are: What would you desire above all else in your spiritual journey with Jesus and what do you desire to learn from God? These are important questions for us to seek the answers from God.

There are two more questions that must parallel the first. As we receive our desire in our spiritual journey how does God want us to use what has been revealed to us and how are we to serve God as the Holy Spirit teaches us?

One of the tools that we have available to move ahead in our spiritual is the next Sunday School and Small Group Study Unstuck. This study will focus on, "Moving from the Mundane to the Meaningful." It provides a platform for our personal spiritual development and growth. Unstuck will be offered on Sunday mornings at 9:00 am and Tuesdays evenings at 7:00 pm beginning Sunday, January 8. If neither of these times work for you, please let me know and we will start other groups.

Unstuck is available on Right Now Media for those who desire to do the study on their own or with their own small group. If you have not signed up for Right Now Media which is a web based resource with a large number of studies. To sign up send an email to Stephanie Shelton, sshelton171@gmail.com, requesting to become a member of Right Now Media. She will send you the sign up information. This membership is a part of our church subscription. The only cost to you may be materials for a given study.

Another crucial aspect of our daily walk with God is to set aside time each day to practice spiritual disciplines of study, praying, reading God's Word, serving God as we serve others. Here is a challenge. We all keep track of our schedules in some way. As we include the important things to us in our daily schedule let us in 2017 start our new year by putting God in our schedules first. This is a way to honor God above all else.

May 2017 be a great year of spiritual growth for each of us.

Pastor Mike

Parents Night Out , Saturday November 19th

The evening was a great success filled with lots of smiles and laughter!  39 kids attended and enjoyed crafts, science experierments and fun activities.  We also welcomed a special guest, Eli Martin for a magic show that delighted all ages!  It was a wonderful night serving God and extending WUMC into the community.  We want to give a HUGE thank you to the eleven amazing WUMC volunteers who made the evening fun and safe for all!  And thank you to Thrivent Financial for sponsoring a portion of the cost and giving us awesome "LIVE GENEROUSLY" shirts.

Theatre for the World Presented No Ordinary Christmas Miracle

Thank you WUMC for all the tremendous support shown for our Christmas show and mission project.  You helped us raise over $ 3,300 for our charities.  We have sent half of our proceeds to The Water Project and are fairly certain our contribution will be receiving matching funds from another donor.  What a blessing that will be for people in need across the globe.  The other half of our donations will be used to purchase needed farm animals through Samaritan's Purse.  Also, after some needed editing, I am hoping to get my script published, so I can continue to donate some money to these two charities in TFTW's name for life.  That way, the impact of our little group may live on well beyond  our performing years.

TFTW is so very grateful for the many volunteers.  There are far too many names to mention here, but I do need to point out Tom and Karen Wiggins.  Even before I moved, these mission projects would not have been possible without their tireless efforts.   We cannot thank them sufficiently for all of the juggling they have done to keep us on track year after year.

What a whirlwind!  We have done twelve shows over the past ten years and the WUMC has been more than generous in all areas.  Since we did two shows in 2016, we currently do not have a show planned for 2017.  Our future is uncertain for many reasons, but there are wonderful possibilities for each of us and even TFTW going forward.   We hope you'll join us in praying for God's guidance and our necessary patience as we forge ahead in His light over the coming years.

On a personal note, I am humbled and extremely blessed to have spent so many wonderful years with you at WUMC.  It is no coincidence that our family wound up in Waterville amongst some of the nicest and most faithful people I have ever known.  Ignorant as I may be, even I recognize that was God's plan!  Thank you for supporting my journey of faith and for everything you've done to make each TFTW project a success.  Using my "gifts" and faith in this unique way has changed me forever.  I am certain that God intended that; however, far greater than refining me, I am positive He wanted our focus on Him so our efforts would be an expression of His love to the world.  We have always tried to fix our minds and hearts on Him and helping others, but the love and blessings we have received far outweigh any love we possibly could have given.  I highly recommend it!

As I pray for God's guidance with a servant's heart, something that is not easy for the dreamer in me, I must express how appreciative I am that He allowed our paths to cross.  Thank you to the many people who have stepped up in faith to "play a part" either on stage or behind the scenes in our efforts to make a difference for God.  Whatever the future may hold for me and TFTW, I will never forget the love and support so freely given by the "church with a warm heart."  I always feel at home surrounded by the people of the WUMC.  'Til next time...wherever and whenever that might be...

God bless,

Journey to the Light

The Church Mouse was SO impressed with the Children's Christmas Program last Sunday.  Everyone did such a wonderful job and your singing was just awesome!!!  One of the photos that was taken from the balcony of the entire cast and then posted on the Facebook page of the church has reached 776 people.  THAT is a new record for WUMC!!!!   Thank you to all who "shared" the photo onto your pages also.  Have you "liked" the Waterville United Methodist Church's Facebook page?  We are getting really close to crossing the 100 mark.

 Dear WUMC Family,

Wishing you Christmas Joy!

Adam and I were very surprised with the generous Christmas gift we both received from the church congregation!  We want to thank you for thinking of us and supporting the ministries of youth and children's ministry.  We definitely could not imagine a more supportive church family!

January Mission Focus

The Pregnancy Center of Greater Toledo

The Pregnancy Center of Greater Toledo's goal is to lovingly share the truth about life, relationships and faith. They help men and women make life-saving, life-changing decisions by sharing information about options, consequences and available services. With the exception of a small amount of grant funding for abstinence education, all funds come from donations. Over 32,000 women have already received help. The Pregnancy Center continues to be a community outreach committed to expressing the compassion of Christ through support and education in pregnancy related issues. We can help keep the doors open!

Mission envelopes are located in the pew racks for your financial gifts.

Lunch afterwards at a local restaurant is included but optional. The work is not hard and we all have a good time, lots of laughter and fellowship. Throughout the year there are other short projects we help with also. You can carpool from the church or meet us there. If you would like to join us, please contact Penny Greenlese at pgreenlese@yahoo.com or 419-206-1602.
