November 2017

Dear Church Family,

Where has 2017 gone? Thanksgiving is nearly upon us and Christmas is just around the corner. This is an exciting time.

I would like to share some exciting news. Just over a year ago God directed our Leadership Team to accept a gift of most of the dirt needed to raise our new church property enough to move ahead with the new building. After working through many different obstacles the dirt has been mounded awaiting the next steps.

In early August we met with an architect from Building God's Way and a Contractor that they partner with in Ohio. In three days they developed a foot print of a new building. Since then that foot print has been perfected. The Church Council voted unanimously on this final design.

Many have asked when are we going to see the newest version of a new building and other details.

The next step has already been taken. A local civil engineer has been hired to work with the contractor. This step is necessary so that a final price can be determined for the site development. Once this step is complete a final all in cost will be supplied to the leadership team. Watch for invitations to information meetings that will share all the details that are available for this part of our journey of faith.

God is moving in our midst. A longtime dream of a new building is moving ahead. Outreach with Waterville Primary School will begin soon and other outreach opportunities are on the horizon.

Consecration Sunday for our 2018 Stewardship Campaign, The God Guarantee, will be November 18. There are two equally important commitments that we will be making. One is our commitment to give thanks to God for His ongoing provision through our financial support of God's work and the second is the areas in which we are being called to use our time, talents, service and witness.

Each one of us have been created to accomplish in mighty ways God's unique purpose in our lives. To accomplish our purpose requires an ever growing faith and maturing relationship with God. Where is God calling you to serve for His glory?

May our God be glorified in the way we serve from the depths of our faith and love.

Pastor Mike

Dear Friends,

First of all, on behalf of the Church Council and Pastor Mike, thank you for your ongoing support of the mission and ministry of WUMC. It takes all of us, not just a few, working together, sharing our money, our time, our talents, our participation and our witness to do God's work of spreading the good news and making disciples for Jesus Christ.

Sunday, October 22nd was the kick off for our 2018 Stewardship Campaign. It is a time of prayer for all of us, thanking God for His many blessings and asking for His guidance and direction to do His will as individuals, as families and as a congregation. We must all prayerfully consider what portion of the resources that He has given us does He want us to return to Him for the work of His Church. Whether its financial giving, volunteering for a committee or project, participating in worship or an activity, etc.

During the next 4 weeks, in Pastor Mike's messages entitled The God Guarantee, we are going to study how God desires to provide for our every need. A basic question for the study is this: What would life be like if I believed, trusted and lived out of faith that God will provide for my every need? Ask yourself now, do I trust God to provide for all my needs?

Besides the Sunday messages by Pastor Mike, we will also be having small group sessions to further discuss the weekly topic. Adult Sunday School @9:00am and Tuesday @7:00pm in the church basement.

You will also be receiving a variety of stewardship information in the mail over the next 3 weeks beginning the week of October 29 for your review.

On November 19th, we will be completing our commitment cards during the worship service. For those not able to be with us, we will send theirs via U.S. Mail. We will share the results Dec 3rd.

Please keep WUMC, Pastor Mike and the entire church family in your thoughts and prayers, as we consider where God is leading each of us as members of His faith community.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow..........

Please contact Tom Wiggins if you have any questions about anything related to finance or stewardship.

I'd like to take a minute to highlight the Prayer Time we have available to all of you from 9-10:00 on Sunday mornings. We encourage you to come for the whole time or come for just a portion, but give some thought to participating in this important ministry.

There has been a faithful 3-4 persons who have been supporting this for a year and a half now.   We come together in the Sanctuary and pray silently for the concerns on our hearts, concerns of our church, community, and world. Recently we have come to feel that our prayers need to be more focused. We are concerned for the health of this church and the new directions we are facing, that we must first and always be a praying church (I Thess. 5:17-18) - praying continually and with thanks in all circumstances.

There is a book by Stormie Omartian titled The Power of a Praying Church in which she speaks of God's people uniting in prayer....

1.To step into the gap - to pray for our world, the natural disasters, and for peace.

2.To have eyes to see - "Jesus told us to occupy until He comes. He made it clear that we are not to sit back and do nothing. Occupying means keeping our eyes open for ways to pray and doing the work God has called us to do. If we stop praying, who knows what needless suffering will come to us, to those we care about, and to countless others we don't even know?"

3.To answer the call and enter the war - "You and I have been given the power through the cross of Christ to pray against the plans of evil. We make war against this evil force in prayer. God's army is an all-volunteer organization, so we have to enlist. We have to tell God we want to be a part of His army of prayer warriors and ask Him to put us on high alert so we can be mobilized at a moment's notice. He says all we have to do is pray, worship Him, and declare His Word, and He will do the rest because "the battle is the Lord's" (I Samuel 17:47)"

Revelation 5:8 is part of a passage that talks about the Lamb opening the scroll during this book that John wrote of his visions of the new creation:

He went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the 24 elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls of incense, which are the prayers of God's people.

Just think of all the people over many centuries pouring their prayers into those bowls because they believed this was the way to God's direction, to fulfill His purposes, for healing, to save their nation, whatever it was, large or small......they believed.

Pastor Mike said in his September Ambassador article we have 3 primary concerns at this moment:

            Church growth

Serving the needs of our community

            New building

Let us all commit ourselves to concentrated and focused prayer in each of these areas. And add our prayers to those golden bowls so that they are overflowing!

The perfect opportunity arrives each week on Sunday mornings between 9 and 10:00.

When God speaks, we need to listen.  Leanne Dunn has resigned the position as secretary to pursue another ministry opportunity God has chosen for her.  As a committee, we regretfully accepted her resignation.  With that being said, God is good as he has provided a replacement for us within our own church.  Starting on November 9, Sandy Clark will be replacing Leanne in the position as secretary.  There will be a transition period with Leanne and Sandy.

The Staff Parish Relations Committee is grateful to Leanne for her service to our church and the Lord.  We wish her the best in this new ministry opportunity.  Please join us in expressing gratitude by dropping off or mailing a card to her.  We are blessed to have Sandy available and willing to serve the Lord in this capacity.  Gratitude is also expressed to Janet for assisting during the transition.  Together we can do more to serve Him

Dear Church family, thanks so much for the lovely Pastor Appreciation Reception on Sun., October 29. Your cards, notes, gifts, and sentiments were much appreciated. The refreshments were wonderful also.

We appreciate your ongoing dedication to sharing your gifts with others and serving Him faithfully. We know God will provide continued direction in your lives in the days ahead.

Operation Christmas Child (OCC) ITEMS

You are an amazing group of shoppers!  Our time to pack the items you have collected all year is just around the corner and just a few last minute items for you to scout out for your own shoebox packing! Keep in mind the most needed boxes are for 10-14 boys. Pray for shopping wisdom as you purchase your items.  The Lord knows the children who will receive your gifts and He can guide your shopping adventures to exactly what will meet needs and give joy.

More than 4,750 locations around the country will serve as collection sites this year for the Samaritan's Purse project Operation Christmas Child-the world's largest Christmas project of its kind.

During National Collection Week, Nov. 13 - 20, Waterville United Methodist Church has the opportunity to again be one of these collection sites. To accomplish this we need volunteers to man the collection area during our appointed times.  Please consider helping with this process by signing up on the bulletin board in the hall near the office and helping with the next step in this mission of touching the lives of 12 million children around the world with God's love.

there are still open slots for operation Christmas child collection week at WUMC/ for November 13-20. Sign-up sheet on the bulletin board - quite a few open spots remain. It takes many volunteers to fill these timeslots. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Our annual Operation Christmas child packing party will be after church during fellowship on Sunday November 12. . Would love to have help packing items that have been brought in during the year. If you have extra items that didn't fit in your shoe boxes - please bring them along that morning. All ages welcome to help!

WUMC collection/dedication of OCC shoeboxes will be November 19 - but if you're not in attendance that day please bring them in to church anytime during collection week We will pray over these boxes for the children that will receive them on the 19th.

The children's Sunday School classes participated in a "Project with a Purpose" in which they made noisemakers (maracas and jingle sticks) to be included in your Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.  Beginning on October 29th, there will be baskets of these noisemakers in the Community Room and Fellowship Hall.  Please feel free to take one noisemaker for each box that you plan on packing.

Some Beanie Babies have been donated. Please feel free to take one and place in your Operation Chritmas Child Shoeboxes.  They are located in the Fireplace Room.

Some of you just love to decorate your home for Christmas. Why not use that joy to decorate God's house?  After all, we are celebrating the birth of His son.

We are looking for volunteers to decorate three areas of the church: 1) the entry and hallway, 2) the fireside room (basement) and 3) the fellowship room (basement).  Choose one, and we have some decorations that you can  use; or if you have your own ideas just be creative.

The decorating needs to be done anytime the week of November 26th, after church on the 26th to before church on December 3rd.

We have volunteers for decorating the sanctuary but if you are willing to be responsible for decorating one of these other areas for Christmas, please call the church office at 419-878-3645. Thank You!

In June 2018, the youth will be going to Burtonsville, MD, for a mission trip with Group Mission Trips.  In order to help with the cost of the trip, the youth will be raking leaves in order to raise funds. Donations to the Youth Mission Trip Fund are welcome.

If you are interested in having the youth rake your leaves or know of a neighbor who could use the teens help, please contact Adam or Stephanie Shelton, or place your name on the signup sheet posted on the bulletin board.

It is time again for our annual participation in the Salvation Army's Bell Ringing!    Our date is set for Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Waterville Kroger location.  Times are one-hour slots running from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.   Grab a buddy (it's always more fun that way!) and sign up for a time that works for you.

Sign-up sheet is posted on the hallway bulletin board, and you don't need to bring anything but yourself......bells, kettle, and sign provided.  Dress warmly, as you will be standing in the Kroger lobby.
