October 2018

Dear Church Family,

God is calling! Throughout the last several years God has been directing each step for relocating our congregation to 7115 Waterville Monclova Rd. This is a massive step of faith. On Sunday, September 16, the congregation voted to move forward with the newest building design and to enter into a capital campaign in January of 2019. The vote to move forward was 97.5% in affirmation. The faith goal for groundbreaking is September of 2019. We are being called to serve our community and one aspect is a move to a new location and facility.

Do you ever wonder why God calls us to service and why it seems that the service is beyond what we think we can accomplish?

Why does God call us to serve? Service to God is one of the primary purposes for each of us on earth. We are part of the covenant with God to love God and one another. Out of that love we serve. In that service we share the love of God that brings transformation into others’ lives. What would your life look like if serving God became a primary purpose each day? One change in many of our lives is that serving God would be much higher on our daily to do list. Too often we are willing to serve when it is convenient and not as ready to serve if it interrupts our own plans. God often interrupts our plans.

When God calls and that call seems beyond our own abilities we realize that a true calling requires us to trust God’s provision by faith. Each time we have a baptism or receive new members to our congregation we all “renew our covenant faithfully to participate in the ministries of the Church by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service and our witness. How are we doing with these five areas of relationship with God and one another?

God is calling us to serve our community. Are we willing to accept God’s call? Will we trust God to provide? Will we put God first in every part of our lives? As we respond faithfully to God’s call, God will provide and bring great blessings of peace and joy.

Today let us all proclaim that that God is first in our lives and that we live to bring God glory. The next time you hear God calling, remember that God never leaves us alone and never fails to provide what we need to accomplish God’s purpose. Let each of us ask ourselves, am I willing to trust God even if what God is calling me to do seems impossible?

Blessings and peace,

Pastor Mike

God is leading us toward a “New Beginning” with so much potential and so many opportunities to spread the good news of Jesus Christ throughout the community and the surrounding area. As members of WUMC we have all committed both as individuals and as a congregation to support this endeavor with our time, our talents, our gifts, our service and our witness.

October 14, 2018, will be the kick off for our 2019 Stewardship Campaign and in January, we will begin our Capital Campaign to complete the funding necessary for our new Church building. Please be in prayer for these two important campaigns and what part you may play in helping to make them a success. As Rev. Schleif reminded us during our recent Church Conference, that we all need to be in prayer seeking the answer to the question: What does God want to do through me?

Quarterly Statements: Your 3rd Quarter Giving Statements will be emailed on Saturday, October 6th. For those who receive hardcopies, they will be available for your pick up on Sunday, October 7th on the shelf outside the Church Office.

Please contact, Tom Wiggins if you have any questions about anything related to finance, stewardship or the Capital Campaign.

General information for Shoe Box ministry

People around North America have prepared boxes filled with gifts for either a boy or a girl in the age categories of 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14. Can you guess which kids got the most boxes? Of course you can. Girls ages 2-4 and 5-9. And I get it. All that cute girl stuff!! Who wouldn’t love to get one of those boxes?! I would say a boy age 10-14, that’s who. OCC is driven by the generosity of thousands and do their best to distribute what they have. But if you only have girl boxes for 2-4 or 5-9 year-old, what can you do?

Our collection site coordinator shared this from an a acquaintance who corresponds with Samaritan’s Purse and works at a home in India.

When the children get these boxes she shared how heart breaking it is to see a boy ask for a boy box and then be given a girl box. It’s a small thing. Or is it?

Good news, this is a solvable problem! Please tap green button below for great ideas!

A note of thanks for the beautiful lap quilt I recently received. It is so bright and cheery and an amazing cross has been pieced in it.

The prayers included with it are such a blessing to me. I treasure this kind thought gift.

“The 5 P’s of Hearing God through the Bible”.

In August, 7 women, representing Waterville UMC went to the Priscilla Shirer event.

What an experience it was! Priscilla gave us some amazing tools to use for Bible Study. Sometimes we need to get back to the basics in order to be refreshed and inspired to really dig in to the Word. To Read more, please click or tap the button below.
