July 2018

Dear Church Family,

Greetings in the name of the Lord. My hope and prayer is that you are having a great summer. Considering our summer activities most of us find ourselves busy with all kinds of activities; vacations, weekend getaways, sports and caring for our homes while the summer weather provides great opportunities.

Busyness is a major aspect of our post-modern lifestyles. Do you feel overwhelmed with all that you want to accomplish or with all the plans for the coming few weeks or months? Busyness is not simply a summer challenge. Many times we are so busy that there is no room for one more appointment, event, or any unplanned activity in our lives.

Here is a critical consideration for us very busy people - are we spending time with God in the midst of all the busyness? Finding peace in the midst of all the activities we are involved in is impossible without spending time with God each day.

Consider this; how much time each day do I spend keeping my body healthy, in recreational activities, working around the house or serving a community group? All these and many more things in our lives take up valuable time. Now, let’s ask, how much time and effort am I putting into my relationship with God?

The Gospel of Luke 9:23 states, “Then he said to them all: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” Do you make time with God a priority? Any relationship takes work. How much work do we give to our relationship with God?

To deny ourselves is to give our own desires to God. Keeping our relationship with God as our greatest endeavor. Taking up the cross is to acknowledge God as being first in our lives due to sacrifice of Jesus on the cross to provide the way for us to be reconciled to God. Are you willing to take up your cross each day?

How do I take up the cross? We take up the cross as we put God in control of every part of our lives every day. It is a simple thing to set aside the time necessary to take up our cross each day in prayer and commitment.

The real struggle to follow God is when the Holy Spirit wants to interrupt our plans, desires and schedule to spend more time with God and to serve God each day.

I want to encourage each of us to start each day by spending time with God in prayer and commitment. Giving the day to God, submitting ourselves to the leading of the Holy Spirit and living by faith when the Holy Spirit seeks to change our plans. We will all be blessed as we put our relationship with God before all else. A great discovery will occur. We will discover that our desires will be transformed, our hearts wanting more than anything an intimate relationship with God and our discovery of the promised peace in all circumstances.

May you be richly blessed with God’s peace,

Pastor Mike

July Mission Focus

In the face of natural disasters, violence, and grinding poverty, Hygiene Kits can mean the difference between sickness and health for struggling families; and School Kits can give children in these impoverished communities and refugee camps some of the basic tools for learning.

Your support makes a tremendous difference in the lives of so many people both here at home and around the world.

Each kit represents a person whose life will be changed because of the simple items contained within. Please donate only the items from the lists below. The Festival of Sharing is very particular that items be the same in each kit.
