APRIL 2018 MISSION FOCUS – Food for Thought

Every month, Food for Thought mobile pantries provide food assistance at multiple partner sites throughout greater Toledo.  We help people who face the realities of food insecurity, offering a choice of nutritious meal options, including shelf-stable items and fresh produce.  Maintaining our patron’s dignity – and serving them thoughtfully – is our utmost priority.  Every Friday night, volunteers meet to make sandwiches and pack lunches for distribution on Saturday to people throughout the downtown Toledo area.  We provide food, water or coffee, as well as conversation for the people we meet.

Our Sunday School will be doing a special project for “Food for Thought.”  The youth will be packing lunches on Friday, May 11th, to help support he mission, “Food for Thought.”  You can find out more about this organization by checking out www.feedtoledo.org.  Also, whatever is collected from our Mission Jar this month will be combined with the children’s efforts to support the mission of Food for Thought.

National Museum of the United States Air Force

Join us as we travel by chartered bus to the National Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio on Monday, April 16, 2018. The cost is $40 per person or $35 per person for any group of 2 or more for the chartered coach with restroom. Departure is at 6:00 am from Waterville United Methodist Church, 102 N. St., Waterville, Oh.

The museum opens at 9:00 am and closes at 5:00 pm putting us back in Waterville around 8:00 pm.  A special guest will be Air Force Lt. Col. Robert Hires, Ret. Bob flew F100 Super Sabers. This is a great opportunity for those interested to hear his thoughts on the cold war as well as the many aircraft in the museum.

Lunch will be the responsibility of each person. There is a good cafeteria at the museum.  Don’t miss this fantastic chance to travel with friends, see one of the countries great museums and celebrate the service of the veterans that have sacrificed so much for our freedom.

Please bring your bus fare the day of the trip. If you are writing a check please make it out to Mike Denman.

Operation Christmas Child

We are gathering OCC monthly donations for a packing party again this year when collection week rolls around in 2018.  This past November, we packed 67 shoeboxes to add our totals with this packing party!

**OCC April Collection Items**

Hygiene items – toothbrushes, hair brush, combs, deodorant, soap in plastic bag, wash cloths,

lip balm, Band-Aids, finger nail care

Pray for shopping wisdom as you purchase these monthly items and the items for your own boxes for collection in November. The Lord knows the children who will receive your gifts and He can guide your shopping adventures to exactly what will meet needs and give joy.  These children may never receive another shoebox of gifts and love again. They deserve new items to open and cherish.

As you collect items for the year, please remember that boys ages 10 to 14 are painfully under represented.   Need help with ideas for boys ages 10 to 14??  There is a list of ideas on the hallway bulletin board, !

Youth Trip to Creation Museum and Ark Encounter

The youth group will be taking an exciting trip (June 1 & 2) to the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter in Kentucky.  This is an amazing opportunity for the youth to learn more about God’s creation and discover the truths found in His Word.  If you would like to help with the cost of this trip by making a financial donation, please make checks payable to WUMC (Memo: Youth Creation).  We also appreciate your prayer support for those youth and leaders who will be making the trip.  If you have any questions, please contact Adam or Stephanie Shelton.

NEW Study:  “Whisper” by Mark Batterson

Summary:  Many people have a tough time believing that God still speaks. We’ve learned from Scripture that God spoke to His people in ancient times and in mysterious ways, but how do we hear His voice now? The truth is God still communicates with His people, but He often speaks in a whisper—not to make it difficult to hear Him, but to draw us close.  In this 4-session series, Mark Batterson teaches what it means for Christians to discern the voice of God in their lives. He will introduce the seven love languages of God—each of them unique and entirely divine. By learning to tune in and decipher each language, Mark equips believers to hear God’s guidance and grow closer to Him.  God is speaking.  Do you know how to listen?
