Dear Members and Friends of Waterville United Methodist Church,
Friends of the Library are sponsoring a Book Sale during Waterville Garage Sale Days. While you are out hunting bargains, be sure and stop in to see their great deals on all kinds of items at the Waterville Branch Library next to the railroad tracks in Conrad Park. The sale runs today and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Be sure and stop at the Youth Group Garage Sale and Bake Sale at the Shelton’s house (171 Freedom Lane) today and Saturday and purchase something. All proceeds will go towards their Mission Trip on June 21-26.
The Wired Word Sunday School Class will be looking at American Pharoah, the first Triple Crown winner in horse racing in 37 years. We’ll explore what the Bible has to say about crowns and ask what we are racing to win in our spiritual lives. Join us in Fellowship Hall at 9:00 a.m. this Sunday for coffee, scriptures and discussion.

Kids will be anchored in rock-solid Bible truths that will guide them through life’s challenges. Advance registration by July 1 will help to make certain this year’s VBS is really cool. If you would like to donate an item, please get it to Stephanie Shelton or there will be a collection box in or near the Community Room. Thank you for your support! (No painter’s tape, paint or card stock is needed now.)

Marilyn Simpson has returned home from her recent stay at St. V’s.
Katherine Smith is currently in St. Luke’s with pneumonia
Julie Vanuka’s (a former member) husband, Ron, passed away on June 5
Nancy Davidson fell while washing windows and broke her foot
Chris Major’s niece, Christina Hurst, fell and broke her back last Sunday
Katie Martin (one of our graduates from last Sunday) had knee surgery on Thursday
Michael Steele, who had been on our Prayer List for many months, lost his battle and passed away yesterday.
And finally, our Christian love and sympathy are extended to the family and friends of Mary Ann Parker. Mary Ann passed away on Wednesday, June 10 of pancreatic cancer. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the church with Pastor Mike officiating. The family suggests memorials to the Waterville Historical Society or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

I’m back! Thank you to Janet for filling in for me in the office while Dave and I enjoyed spending some time at Ft. Polk, Louisiana with our grandsons, our daughter and our son-in-law. We had a wonderful time!
The Wired Word Sunday School Class will be looking at the plight of aging nuns in the Roman Catholic Church this Sunday. We explore biblical examples of loving relationships and examine our responsibilities toward those most vulnerable among us. The youth will also selling food at the garage sale and would appreciate any donations of the following items: cans of pop, bottled water, individual bags of chips/snacks, plastic 8 oz. cups, Snow cone flavoring (Jelly Belly), plastic spoons, and baked goods. Please put the baked goods in sandwich size zip-loc bags to sell individually (2 items in a bag or one large item). Brownies, cookies or Rice Krispie Treats sell best during the garage sale. They will also need lots of help at the Food Stand and also for the sale days. They will also need help on June 10 to help price items. If you have any questions please contact Adam or Stephanie Shelton (419-205-2516 or 567-202-5035). All monies raised will go toward the Youth Group mission trip to Kenosha, Wisconsin. (They still need to raise nearly $3,000.)

Peg Walker has been able to return to her home following her heart procedure. Please continue to keep she and Dave in your prayers as she heals from her recent surgery.

Dear Members and Friends of Waterville United Methodist Church,
Westgate Chapel will be presenting a Kairos* Benefit Concert on Friday, May 15 at 7:00 pm. The concert will consist of all contemporary music featuring the music of Chris Tomlin, Kari Jobe, Hill Song, David Crowder, and others. The songs will be performed by the Westgate Chapel Worship Team and Choir. There is no admission charge, but a freewill offering will be taken. (*Kairos is a ministry that works in prisons by personally sharing the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ with incarcerated men, women and youth, as well as their families.)
Four years of severe drought in California has killed 12.5 million trees, reduced the number of fish in lakes and rivers and taken a half million acres of farmland out of production. All of this has led Governor Jerry Brown to announce water conservation requirements for municipalities and townships. His controversial new policy has regions and economic sectors in the state crying foul over what many view as unfair and uneven application of the conservation rules. So for this week’s installment of The Wired Word, we will examine what scripture teaches us regarding our responsibility to be good stewards of earth’s resources, such as water, and how stewardship relates to our relationship with God and with other residents of our planet. The Maumee Community Band will be presenting Spring Blast of Music Concert on Tuesday, May 19 at 7:00 pm in the Family Life Center of Maumee United Methodist Church. Admission to free and there is plenty of parking. Church members Elaine Colyer and John Nicholson play instruments in this band.
All items/articles for the June issue of The Ambassador, our monthly newsletter, are due in the church office on Thursday, May 21.
The Waterville Elementary Teacher Appreciation Lunch has been scheduled for Wednesday, June 3 at 11:00 a.m. Our church will be feeding around 50 of the staff at the school that day. Charlotte Pritchett has placed a signup sheet on the bulletin board in the hallway. We are in need of spinach salads, lettuce salads, vegetable salads, and pasta salads. Also needed are 4 desserts which will each serve 10 to 12 people. Please have your salads and desserts to the church by 9:00 am or to the school by 10:00 am on the day of the luncheon. We are also in need of folks to help set up, serve and clean up at the school beginning at 10:00 am.

News For May 8, 2015
Dear Members and Friends of Waterville United Methodist Church,
On Saturday, May 9, letter carriers in our community will be collecting food for families in need. You may help with this project by donating non-perishable food items (canned meats, fish, soup, juice, vegetables, pasta, cereal, peanut butter and rice) and placing them in bags. Then, place your bags of food by your mailbox for your letter carrier to deliver to the Seagate Food Bank…the same place where our M&Ms Bible Study group volunteers! The staff at Seagate will be working a 12 hour day on Saturday as they unload the trucks that are delivering the donations. (By the way, the seven ladies from M&Ms were able to pack 300 Senior food boxes this past Wednesday at Seagate Food Bank.)
News has dominated the headlines concerning both peaceful and violent protests in Baltimore following the death of Freddie Gray, an African-American, as a result of injuries he suffered while in police custody in April. The atmosphere has changed since Maryland’s attorney for the city, Marilyn J. Mosby, brought charges on May 1 against the six police officers involved in Gray’s arrest and transport. For this week’s lesson from The Wired Word, we will examine the role of civic leaders to work for justice and peace in times of crisis. To honor all the mothers of Waterville United Methodist Church, a special monetary gift has been sent to Journey of the Heart Ministries for their Center of Hope. They are located on South Byrne Road in Toledo. The Center of Hope is a safe and confidential place in the community where women can discover a new way to live in Hope. The purpose of the center is to provide a beautiful place where women’s lives are changed and where they learn they are not alone in their struggles. There is an insert in the bulletin this Sunday that will provide you with additional information about this ministry in our community.
You may want to come to church a few minutes early on Sunday for a special Power Point slideshow. During Sunday School the past two weeks, the children that were present were asked “why they love their mom” or “why they are thankful for their mom.” Their responses will be shown on the screens before the church service this week. These responses will also be included in your bulletins on a special insert.

Dear Members and Friends of Waterville United Methodist Church,
This week’s The Wired Word Adult Bible Fellowship class concerns a court ruling that allows a pro-Israel group to run ads on New York city subways and buses that test the limits of free speech. The ad itself is one that can be easily misunderstood and taken in ways opposite to those intended by the ad creators, and then, even if understood, could be construed as hate speech. Nonetheless, this news gives us an opportunity to remind ourselves of the importance of thinking critically about the messages that come at us every day, as well as to consider what limits we might voluntarily place on our own speech and actions. The financial numbers are in from April’s mission emphasis: The Mission Jar coins have been counted and we collected $2,500 for the Small Animal Project through Samaritan’s Purse. That will purchase 125 pairs of rabbits for needy families and will bless entire villages. Thank you for your generous support of this project!
The Upper Room, a daily devotional book for the months of May and June, will be available at the entrances to the sanctuary this Sunday. The cost is $1.00.
This Sunday we will be celebrating Teacher Appreciation Day during our worship service. Plan to join us following the service for cake and punch in the Fellowship Hall to honor all who serve as teachers in our church. Cara McMillan and Barb Page will be your hosts.
Thursday, May 7 will be the National Day of Prayer. Our sanctuary will be open for prayer from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. that day. You are welcome to stay for as long as you like. You are encouraged to pray for our local, state, and national leaders; for the churches and church leaders; for our Military and it’s leaders; for families in our nation, state and throughout our community; pray for God’s presence in our schools, colleges, and universities; pray for Christian influence in the media industry, from movies, television, and radio station, to newspaper and magazine publishers; and finally, pray for divine intervention in our national, state, and local economies. Pastor Mike will be having a Service of Prayer at 12:15 p.m. in the sanctuary that day also.

Vacation Bible School will be here before you know it. As part of their theme this year, the kids will be making snowflakes using salt dough. Stephanie Shelton is looking for metal snowflake cookie cutters that could be used for this project in mid-July. Do you happen to have any???

Our mission emphasis for April is the small animal project through Samaritan’s Purse. Many of you will recognize Samaritan’s Purse with our Operation Christmas Child ministry each fall. The small animal project provides sheep, goats, chickens and other small animals to families so that they can become self-sufficient, but not only the family, but the whole village will be blessed. When these animals have offspring, the family must give the offspring to another family in the village. Please prayerful consider what God is asking of you to transform people who will be blessed by the gift of life through the gift of small animals.
The Upper Room, a daily devotional book for the months of May and June, will be available at the entrances to the sanctuary this Sunday. The cost is $1.00.

Dear Members and Friends of Waterville United Methodist Church,
This week, we’ll be looking at two recent news items. The first is about the “demise” of an online company that promised “eternal life” to its users’ avatars, each loaded with data from the person and able to interact with that person’s real-life friends, even after he or she dies. The other story regards the possibility – within the next two years – of the world’s first head transplant onto a donor body. Both stories give us an opportunity to think about the fear of death and about eternal life as taught by the Bible and by Jesus. So those will be the topics of this week’s installment of The Wired Word. Join us in Fellowship Hall at 9:00 a.m. this Sunday for coffee, scriptures and discussion.

Sunday’s sermon will address the topic of Passionate Worship. Daily worship is one of the ways that we honor God. Romans 12:1-2 states: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s Mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to Go – this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mine. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Our daily worship of God is practiced in the way that we serve others. Public worship is the gathering of the body of Christ as a community of faith for the honor and praise of God. One key to passionate worship is directly impacted by the time that is spent with God each day. How much time do you intentionally spend with God each day? Do you pray for God to direct both personal and public worship in your life? God desires to bless you; our worship is an expression of thanksgiving to God for all our blessings.
JoAnn Lucas has requested a prayer quilt this Sunday for her friends Muriel & Jim Connolly of Troy, Ohio. Muriel had an ocular stroke in her one good eye and will be having eye surgery. Please be sure and stop by the quilt, say a prayer and tie a knot for Jeanette this Sunday.
Parents – Remind your children that they will be checked during Sunday School this week for their Memory Verse. “You are the God of great wonders!” Psalm 77:14

When these animals have offspring, the family must give the offspring to another family in the village. Please prayerful consider what God is asking of you to transform people who will be blessed by the gift of life through the gift of small animals.

News For Friday April 10, 2015
Dear Members and Friends of Waterville United Methodist Church,
The Anthony Wayne High School Interact Club (the high school division of Rotary Club) will be co-sponsoring the first annual Kids Against Hunger Food Build on Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and then from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Gateway Middle School. The school is located at 900 Gibbs Street in Maumee. Meals packaged will go to feed the refugees affected by ISIS in Israel. Volunteers are needed during both time periods. They hope to make 40,000 meals during this four hour period.
Now that Holy Week and Easter are behind us, we may be inclined to put on hold until next year thinking any more about what those events on the church calendar represent. But before we move on to the next thing, it’s worth taking time to notice an event that is happening more and more in churches during Holy Week: Christians hosting a Passover seder – a Jewish observance. And even more importantly, this news gives us a chance to consider how such celebrations symbolize a growing awareness among Christians of the common heritage we share with Jews. So for this week’s installment of The Wired Word, we will look at those common roots with the goal of increasing our understanding of the importance of the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) for Christians, as well as enlivening our connection with people of the Jewish faith. For the months of April and May – we ask that you collect and donate small toys, coloring books, crayons, markers, tops, and any other small toy items. Any toy items are welcome that are allowed by Samaritans Purse. Anne Stevens will be placing a collection box under the table in the foyer for your items.

Parents – mark your calendars! The Waterville Community Vacation Bible School will take place on Sunday, July 12th through Thursday, July 16th at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in the evenings. Our church will be responsible for providing the evening meal and the snacks on Tuesday, July 14th.
And finally, with Spring finally here (as we witnessed last evening), many of you might be undertaking the task of some Spring Cleaning. This is a reminder that the Youth Group will be holding their annual fund raiser during the Waterville Community Garage Sale Days from Thursday, June 11th to Saturday, June 13th. News came from Europe this week that grocery chains in Britain are balking at selling Easter eggs that provide a Christian interpretation of Easter. So for this installment of The Wired Word, we will explore how believers can effectively witness to non-Christians and teach their own children about their faith in an increasingly secular society. The Church Mouse would like to thank Sherry Hill, Pam Cook, Jim Page, Janet Poling, Terry Myers, Penn & Charlotte Pritchett and Larry & Jan Sheridan for cleaning the Sanctuary on Tuesday morning. Pam and Sherry cleaned the stained glass windows and window sills and, along with Janet, took charge of cleaning in the balcony. Jim got rid of all the cobwebs in the ceiling light fixtures, got the dust off of the ceiling fan, tightened loose screws, repaired loose flooring tiles in the choir loft and mopped the floors. Janet, Terry, Charlotte, Larry and Jan spent most of their energy cleaning and polishing the pews. Larry also cleaned the glass doors and windows and hunted for cobwebs in light fixtures. Penn made arrangements to have the church grounds cleaned on Wednesday. It looks like we’re ready for company!!!
Church Mouse thanks also go out to Jerry and Melva Robinson for making the trip to the nursery on Friday to pick up all the Easter lilies that were ordered and will be placed near the altar on Sunday.

The total distance of the walk is 2.8 miles. Please feel free to walk as far as you are able or meet us at a specific location for prayer.
After our prayer walk we will drive to the Fire House to pray there and then walk to our property next door. We have been given permission by the Fire Department to park in their back lot. There are no sidewalks. An approximate time of arrival at the Fire House would be 2:05 pm. The fire station will have their front doors open and have made their restrooms available for our use.
The Waterville Community Easter morning Sunrise Service will be taking place at the park next to the old Waterville Primary School by the river. That service will begin at 7:00 a.m. and will be led by Rev. Mike O’Shea from the Waterville Community Church. There will not be a breakfast following the service this year.
The Wired Word Adult Sunday School Class will be meeting at 9:00 a.m. in Fellowship Hall on Sunday.
We will be having our traditional Easter worship service at 10:30 a.m. There will not be any children’s Sunday School. (Parents, it might be a good idea to bring some books or other quiet activities for the children.)
Pastor Mike will be conducting an Easter service at the Waterville Browning Masonic Community at 1:00 p.m. on Easter Sunday afternoon. All are invited to attend.

Please remember to pray for those volunteers and inmates who are involved in this weekend’s Kairos program at the Toledo Correctional Institute. Thank you to all who baked cookies for this outreach ministry…Eric Ramlow wrote a note of thanks on the cookie signup sheet when he picked up the cookies last Friday.
This week’s installment of The Wired Word will explore how a group of student athletes put the needs of their opponents before their own in order to provide much-needed encouragement and support. Prayer Quilt - Glen & Yvonne Lammon have requested a quilt for the Jim McQuillin Family. Jim has cancer and is in treatment and Janet and Jim recently lost her parents and grandparents in a fatal accident. Janet and Jim have a sweet daughter, Ava, who just turned 13. They could use prayers for healing, peace, strength and mercy.

With Easter soon upon us, it’s time to get the Sanctuary in tip-top shape. If you would like to help with this semi-annual chore, let’s come together on Tuesday, March 31st at 9:00 a.m. The wood floors need to be mopped, the pews need to be cleaned, the wood needs to be polished, the window sills dusted and the cobwebs removed. It should only take a few hours to get the Sanctuary ready for Easter company.

On Maundy Thursday, April 2nd, at 6:00 p.m. we will be having a potluck dinner with a Christian Seder. We ask that those attending arrive prior to 6:00 pm so the food can be set out on the tables. Simple food is preferable and there will be a period of time prior to filling our plates as a part of this remembrance of the gift of God’s Grace in Christ. This will be a family experience. Please RSVP on the signup sheet on the bulletin board this Sunday if you plan to attend.
This year we are observing Good Friday with a Cross Walk of our community. We will gather at the church prior to noon on Friday, April 3rd. At noon, we will begin our Prayer Walk for our community led by a cross. Stops along the way will include the city building, the Chamber of Commerce, the downtown businesses, several churches and other stops along the way. This will be a family friendly opportunity to pray for our community and to be witnesses of our faith.

Theatre-for-the-World will take place on Friday, March 13th, Saturday, March 14th and Sunday, March 15th. Friday and Saturday’s shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday show will start at 1:30 p.m. This year’s production is FOOLS, a family-friendly comedy by Neil Simon.
If you are attending the play this weekend, we have a favor to ask. Please help us make room for our guests (if you are able) by parking down the street at the park, in the next block or maybe in the library lot. It looks like rain this evening, so remember to bring an umbrella with you!
Canned food donations for the three local food pantries will be accepted at the door before each presentation of “FOOLS.” Not sure what to bring? Karen Longnecker says that the food pantries are always running low on canned fruits.

Many of you registered your Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes online when you paid for shipping last fall. We would like to know where your boxes ended up! Please contact the church office with that information. We will be plotting these destinations on our world map for all to see. So far, we have received word that boxes from our congregation went to Malawi and the Central African Republic.
The 35th annual Changed Life Seminar for women will take place on Saturday, March 21st at Emmanuel Baptist church in Toledo. The guest speaker will be Elisa Morgan. For twenty years, Elisa served as CEO of MOPS International. Registration and refreshments begin at 8:15 a.m. The day includes a morning session, lunch break and an afternoon session. Rob Greenlese has posted instructions and a signup sheet on the bulletin board in the hallway for cookies for an upcoming Kairos weekend at the Toledo Correctional Facility. All cookie donations must be brought to the church by Friday, March 20th. Rob will not be “going to jail” this weekend, but former member, Eric Ramlow, will be attending. They need 10,000 dozen cookies for this weekend. (That’s right…120,000 cookies!!) We need your help….only four “cookie-bakers” have signed up as of today!
I just got off the phone with Squire Young in Thailand. After nine trips to the doctor, he reports that he has finally been cleared by the doctor to get on an airplane. He will start his trip back to the states on Saturday. He thanks you for your prayers.

Leonard Nimoy, the actor most noted for portraying the super-logical Mr. Spock on the old Star Trek TV series and in the Star Trek movies made since, died last week. Nimoy’s passing gives us the opportunity to consider the role of logic in coming to faith as well as what might be called the illogic of faith and the leap of faith. Brian Schultz will be with us this Sunday morning. He will be sharing his musical talent by singing and he would like to speak to the congregation at the beginning of the service about The Water Project and challenge all of us to make a difference.

Two folks have signed up for the New Members Class. However, Sunday mornings will not work for either of them. Pastor Mike will be rescheduling the class for a different day and time. We will let you know an update as soon as it becomes available.
Our mission focus for the month of March will be the Theatre-for-the-World Well Project. Please check your March issue of The Ambassador for additional information.
Beginning on Sunday afternoon, the Theatre-for-the World will be in rehearsals every night in our Sanctuary from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. If you are unable to attend any of the scheduled productions next weekend, they will be having dress rehearsals on Wednesday and Thursday evenings this week. As in years past, you are welcome to attend those events.
Theatre-for-the-World will take place on Friday, March 13th, Saturday, March 14th and Sunday, March 15th. Friday and Saturday’s shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday show will start at 1:30 p.m. This year’s production is FOOLS, a family-friendly comedy by Neil Simon.
There will be invitation cards in your bulletin this week about the Theatre-for-the-World. Please feel free to share it to someone who might enjoy the production next weekend…a neighbor, co-worker, waitress, barber, etc.
We are in need of cookie bakers for Theatre-for-the-World intermission treats. Nancy Stafford has placed a signup sheet on the bulletin board in the main hallway. Please add your name to the list and, if possible, indicate what kind of cookies you will be contributing. We have really increased our advertising this year and are expecting large turnouts each time the play is presented. Please help us prepare for our guests! The cookies will all need to be at the church by next Friday afternoon.
Time is quickly running out for you to make your reservations for the Lasagna Dinner on Saturday, March 14th before the play. The Youth will need all reservations by Wednesday, March 11th. Please either add your name to the list in the hallway or contact Stephanie Shelton.
Many of you registered your Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes online when you paid for shipping last fall. We would like to know where your boxes ended up! Please contact the church office with that information. We will be plotting these destinations on our world map for all to see. So far, we have received word that boxes from our congregation went to Malawi and the Central African Republic.
Sunday will be the final Sunday to order your Easter lily. If you would like to order a flower or make a donation to our Building Fund, please use the envelopes that can be found on the bulletin board outside Pastor Mike’s office. Write your information on the outside of the envelope and place your money inside the envelope. You may either place them in the offering plate or drop them off in the office. The cost of each lily is $8.00. There is also a link to order your Easter lily in the March issue of The Ambassador – you will just fill out the form online and send your payment to the office.
The 35th annual Changed Life Seminar for women will take place on Saturday, March 21st at Emmanuel Baptist church in Toledo. The guest speaker will be Elisa Morgan. For twenty years, Elisa served as CEO of MOPS International. Registration and refreshments begin at 8:15 a.m. The day includes a morning session, lunch break and an afternoon session. The cost is $25.00. Registrations MUST be received by March 13th. To register, please visit ChangedLifeSeminar.com or pick up a form on the bulletin board in the hallway. (Several women from our church have registered and will be attending.)
Rob Greenlese has posted instructions and a signup sheet on the bulletin board in the hallway for cookies for an upcoming Kairos weekend at the Toledo Correctional Facility. All cookie donations must be brought to the church by Friday, March 20th. Rob will not be “going to jail” this weekend, but former member, Eric Ramlow, will be attending. They need 10,000 dozen cookies for this weekend. (That’s right…120,000 cookies!!) So, when you’re baking cookies for the Theatre-for-the-World, make a couple dozen extra to help out this wonderful program also.
And finally, the Church Mouse would like to thank Jerry Robinson for his construction of shelves inside the new storage area in Fellowship Hall. The boxes with Christmas decorations are now nicely stored in an area where there are much easier to retrieve. And special thanks to Melva for doing such a nice job supervising Jerry while he did his work!

Dear Members and Friends of Waterville United Methodist Church,
A video released by the Somalia-based terror group Al-Shabaab a week ago called for attacks on Western targets. Such threats are becoming almost commonplace in our “brave new world.” Our focus in this week’s The Wired Word Adult Sunday School Class is not terrorism per se, but how believers should function under pressure. It’s understandable that threats like these might easily distract us from the church’s core mission, so we will examine what Scripture teaches us about how to respond when we feel threatened. Join us in Fellowship Hall at 9:00 a.m. this Sunday for coffee, scriptures and discussion.
Stephanie Shelton wants to make sure that all children attending Sunday School this week bring a paint shirt to church. (She was ill last week and the kids didn’t get to their painting activity.) The kids will be painting with acrylic paint this Sunday. Also, she is asking for donations of paint/craft shirts. Do you have some adult shirts that are too small or too big? She would be glad to have them for the Sunday School classes.
The Theatre-for-the-World set has been erected at the front of the sanctuary. Although it makes things look a little different for the next three weeks, be assured that we will still be worshiping on Sundays. One of the changes that we’ve made to accommodate the props is that the words on the Power Point slides have been moved to the top half of the screens for the next few weeks. It will look a little funny, but we think that it will work for those who are seated in the pews on the main floor. So, when you arrive on Sunday morning, make sure you sit where you can see at least the top half of the screens.

Tonight, Friday, February 27, 2015 is the 8th Annual Anthony Wayne Spirit of Giving Spaghetti Dinner in the Anthony Wayne High School Cafeteria from 4:30 – 8:00 p.m. Please mark your calendars and come out and support this organization comprised of AW Staff, students, and neighbors, as we raise funds to help support families within our district with catastrophic illnesses. This year there are four families that have been “adopted” by AWSG and several others that will be given smaller grants to assist with financial needs. AWSG is not just about financial assistance, many AW students and staff assist by babysitting siblings during treatment times, taking care of yard work for families when that’s the last thing that need to care about, or grocery shopping to help fill empty shelves. Please help us help others by coming out to the spaghetti dinner. There will be carry out and also drive-through with the spaghetti dinner tonight. Anne Stevens reports that they have lost three of their "adoptees" within the last six weeks....not that they didn't know this was a possibility or that it hasn't happened before (when most of these people we are able to assist are terminal.... ) but she don't know that they’ve ever lost three in such a short period of time. They hope to continue to support the families in their darkest moments but also will have new families they're going to take on because of those openings. This is AWSG's largest fundraiser of the year. The community has been amazing. Thanks for all your help.

Last week, Brian Schultz put a song he wrote out on YouTube with the hopes of driving people to our website for Theatre-for-the-World. He wants to make sure that the people that aren't on Facebook have an opportunity to hear the song and perhaps share it via email with others. He thinks most people would appreciate the message and perhaps they'd even check out what TFTW is trying to do on the web.
We have printed several flyers for the Theatre-for-the-World production. Please feel free to take some of the posters home with you this Sunday and display them in places that you shop, dine or at your place of employment. They are located on the shelf outside the church office.

The Church Council will be having a Planning Session tomorrow (Saturday) beginning at 1:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Please keep these members and their meeting in your prayers.
A gruesome Islamic State (ISIS) video has been released which shows the beheadings of 21 Egyptian Christians in Libya. The global community has condemned this brutal slaughter of innocent people, and Egyptian leaders have called for revenge. But the cycle of violence is difficult to break, both in international affairs and in our personal lives. Revenge, forgiveness, Christian unity and turning enemies into friends will be the topics of this week’s The Wired Word Adult Sunday School Class. Join us in Fellowship Hall at 9:00 a.m. this Sunday for coffee, scriptures and discussion.

Prayer Quilt - The Tuesday Night Women’s Bible Study Group has requested a Prayer Quilt for their member Bev Drage, who is now out of the hospital and is rehabbing in Perrysburg at Kingston Manor.
We will have 5 Welcome A Neighbor bags this Sunday. Please check the addresses to see if any of these new residents live close to you or are on your route home. Delivery is easy…just walk up to the door, knock or ring the doorbell, smile, introduce yourself and welcome them to the area. The bags are filled with a notepad, pen, information about our church and a bag of microwave popcorn. Thank you to Bobbie Westfall and Becky Allison for putting these bags together each month.
The Upper Room, a daily devotional book for the months of March and April, will be available at both entrances to the sanctuary this Sunday. The cost is $1.00.

The cost of materials to build one of the 28’ x 28’ or 28’ x 32’ houses from the ground up is approximately $43,000 to $47,000 The project is in need of both funding to cover material costs and volunteers for the six week building process. If you are interested in working on the construction phase, you will find the SOWER build schedule and the registration forms on the shelf outside the church office. News for February 13, 2015
Recent news about NBC Nightly News anchorman Brian Williams relating on the air false details of an experience he had in Iraq in 2003 have led to public outcry about his trustworthiness as a journalist. As NBC launched an internal investigation last week, Williams, also managing editor of the program, took himself out of the anchor role for "several days," saying his actions had made him "too much a part of the news." A few days later, NBC suspended him for six months without pay.
This story reminds us of how Jesus often pointed beyond himself to God the Father, and leads us to consider how we, when sharing our faith and ministering to others, might ensure that Jesus is the "news" -- not ourselves. So that topic, along with the reliability of human memory and the psychology of lying or "embellishing," will be the focus of this installment of The Wired Word Adult Sunday School Class. Join us in Fellowship Hall at 9:00 a.m. this Sunday for coffee, scriptures and discussion.

Stephanie Shelton reports that the children just finished their series in Sunday School called, Maze Days, which focused on Moses and the book of Exodus. The kid’s offering went towards Imagine No Malaria. They raised $50! Their Project with a Purpose was making Thank You cards for the local police and firefighters. Way to go, Kids!
Our former pastor, Rev. David Hogg, was taken to St. Anne’s Hospital at 4:30 a.m. on Thursday with chest pains. Please keep he and Paulette in your prayers as he is undergoing more tests today. Get well wishes may be sent to Dave at his home: 6202 Willowcrest Dr., Columbus, OH 43229
Olga’s classical music CD may be purchased after church during Fellowship Hour. It includes songs from Bach, Johannes Brahms, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Samuel Barber. The cost is $15.00. She is donating a portion of each sale to the church. We also have a few to sell in the Church Office.

Ash Wednesday is less than a week away. Our sanctuary will be open on Wednesday, February 18th from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. for anyone who would like to have the Imposition of Ashes and/or Holy communion prior to the work day. This will be a time in which each of us can spend as much time in the sanctuary as we would like in prayer and meditation, personal worship and reflection. One thing will happen if you are marked with the sign of the cross in ashes. Someone will ask “Why?” This provides a great opportunity to share our personal faith and to invite folks to church.
The congregation is invited to attend the Ash Wednesday Service at 12:30 p.m. at the Browning Masonic Community in Waterville on Wednesday, February 18th for the Imposition of Ashes and Holy Communion. Pastor Mike will be leading that service.

The Church Mouse reports that the new storage area in the basement is almost complete. Randy Reihing has been busy painting the trim wood this week. Jerry Robinson and he will be installing the trim on Saturday. Be sure and stop down in Fellowship Hall and check out the finished product on Sunday.
This is going to be one of those weekends that we will all be wishing we were in Florida. Please be careful out there! It looks like Sunday’s high temperature will be a balmy 3 degrees. Safe travels for those of you who are vacationing on this holiday weekend!

Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives John Boehner recently invited Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address Congress without informing the White House. This occurred just days after President Barack Obama invited British prime minister David Cameron to lobby Congress against the Iran sanctions bill supported by Boehner. Such use of foreign leaders in U.S. governance reveals that once again American leaders are failing to build consensus around important issues. Respect, communication, negotiation and the setting of proper boundaries will be the topics of this week’s Wired Word Adult Sunday School class. Our mission focus for the month of February will be the S.O.W.E.R. Project (Sharing Our Witness – Enriching Relationships). The 2015 SOWER Team is in the planning stages for constructing the 15th home for a family near Frakes, Kentucky (the Cumberland Gap area). The cost of materials to build one of the 28’ x 28’ or 28’ x 32’ houses from the ground up is approximately $43,000 to $47,000 The project is in need of both funding to cover material costs and volunteers for the six week building process. Karen Longnecker would like to inform the congregation of a Ham Loaf Dinner at Zion United Methodist Church in Whitehouse on Thursday, February 12th from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. Cost is $8.50 for adults and $3.00 for children under 10.
Ash Wednesday is right around the corner. Our church will be open on Wednesday, February 18th from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. for anyone who would like to have the Imposition of Ashes and/or Holy communion prior to the work day. This will be a time in which each of us can spend as much time in the sanctuary as we would like in prayer and meditation, personal worship and reflection.
February 27, 2015 is the 8th Annual Anthony Wayne Spirit of Giving Spaghetti Dinner in the Anthony Wayne High School Cafeteria from 4:30 – 8:00 p.m. Please mark your calendars and come out and support this organization comprised of AW Staff, students, and neighbors, as we raise funds to help support families within our district with catastrophic illnesses. This year there are four families that have been “adopted” by AWSG and several others that will be given smaller grants to assist with financial needs. AWSG is not just about financial assistance, many AW students and staff assist by babysitting siblings during treatment times, taking care of yard work for families when that’s the last thing that need to care about, or grocery shopping to help fill empty shelves. Please help us help others by coming out to the spaghetti dinner AND if you or someone you know would have a item or service you might donate to the Silent Auction that accompanies the dinner that night, we genuinely welcome the contribution. To help save on the cost of the paper by placing order forms in the church bulletins for several weeks and the printing costs, we would like to try something different this year. If you would like to order a flower or make a donation to our Building Fund, please use the envelopes that can be found on the bulletin board outside Pastor Mike’s office. Write your information on the outside of the envelope and place your money inside the envelope. You may either place them in the offering plate or drop them off in the office. We will be taking orders from Sunday, February 1st to Sunday, March 15th. The cost of each lily is $8.00. There is also a link to order your Easter lily in the February issue of The Ambassador – you will just fill out the form online and send it to the office. (You will then send us a check or place your money in the offering plate – we will not be asking for any credit card information.)
And lastly, this week Operation Christmas Child was able to report the final number of shoeboxes that were collected in 2014. Drum roll please……..10,440,333 boxes were packed and shipped to children around the globe. Remember to keep praying for each of those who were touched by this ministry. If you are one of those folks who like to shop for your boxes all year long, the OCC items that they suggest purchasing in February are toothbrushes and toothpaste.

Under-inflated footballs have been big news of late, ever since it was discovered that the New England Patriots were using them in their game with the Indianapolis Colts. Because the under-inflated balls are thought by some to provide a slight edge to the team on offense and using such is a violation of NFL rules, it’s assumed that the balls in question were deliberately deflated. This has led to still-unproven claims that the Patriots were cheating. While not assuming anyone’s guilt, the news does give us an opportunity to talk about how we convince ourselves that cheating (or almost any other wrongdoing) is okay. That is, assuming we accept basic morality to begin with – and surely most Christians do – how do we give ourselves permission to do something that is not acceptable according to our moral code? That will be the topic of this week’s Wired Word lesson. Join us in Fellowship Hall at 9:00 a.m. this Sunday for coffee, scriptures and discussion.

Ted Myers was in the office yesterday and showed me the newest church website that he has been working hard on. All I can say is WOW!! It should be rolling out in the next few weeks. I will be sure and keep you updated as to when it is ready to roll.

Construction on the storage area in Fellowship Hall will continue next week on Tuesday, February 3rd.
The weather forecast for Sunday looks a little snowy. Please be aware, that with the freezing rain we had on Thursday, that there are still icy areas in the parking lot and sidewalks. Jerry Robinson was at the church this morning and put salt down on the sidewalks and walkways, but because of the cold temperatures expected over the next week, we are unsure of how much melting will take place. Please, please, please be careful on Sunday morning on those areas!!!

Our mission focus for the month of January is the Pregnancy Center of Greater Toledo. Their goal is to lovingly share the truth about life, relationships and faith. They help men and women make life-saving, life-changing decisions by sharing information about options, consequences and available services. With the exception of a small amount of grant funding for abstinence education, all funds come from donations. Over 32,000 women have already received help. The Pregnancy Center continues to be a community outreach committed to expressing the compassion of Christ through support and education in pregnancy related issues. We can help keep the doors open! Remember, this Sunday will be the Mission Jar coin collection!
Bill Plassmann has made DVDs and Blueray recordings of the 2014 Children’s Christmas Program from mid-December. If you would like to have a copy, he asks that you make a donation to the Youth Group Mission Trip Fund. These DVDs are located on the shelf outside the church office.
The Youth Alive Wish List has been taken care of with the exception of one item…they still are in need of cans of pop. You may leave any donations in the youth room.

Construction has begun in Fellowship Hall this morning! The framing is taking place along the back wall for the construction of a large storage area. Carpenter Bob Ziegler and his helper are moving right along.
